9 Million Macs in 2007

Apple pundits are speculating on a projected 9 million Macs selling in 2007!

In various sources around the web, there's a lot of banter about a quote by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster:

"We believe Mac market share can grow by 1 percent again in CY07, ending the year at around 4 percent, with an average for the year of 3.5 percent. In our estimation, an increase in Mac market share to 3.5 percent would lead to upside to Street CY07 EPS of $0.34 or 11.6 percent."

If you do the math this figures out to a possible 9 million units for 2007...

Instead of the Intel-chip transition slowing sales as was suggested last year at this time, it has been one of the contributing factors to the explosion in sales... along with the iPod and the ability to run WinXP on the Intel machines. (Even our techs here at TSP at first underestimated the versatility and power that the cross-platform systems would provide. The dual-OS is fast becoming our most popular installed configuration, using Parallels Desktop to run Windows within the OSX environment.)

Factors that suggest strong continued growth are the release of Mac OS X 10.5 next year, the launch of iTV, the introduction of movies for sale through the iTunes Store from studios outside of Disney, new iPods, the fabled 'iPhone'... all leading to strong "buy" recommendations on Wall Street.
